Galactagogue
Definition from BabyGearLab's Dictionary of Terms
A substance that increases breastmilk supply. Examples of herbal galactagogues are fenugreek, blessed thistle, fennel seed, garlic, anise, and hops. Examples of dietary ones include oatmeal, fennel, barley, red veggies like beets, yams, and carrots, green veggies like collards, kale, and beet greens, and dark beer in a very limited amount. There are also three prescription medications that have milk-producing properties (metoclopromide/reglan, domperidone, and metformin), although each has its own side effects and should only be taken with the advice and strict guidance of a medical provider.
