Our Verdict

OsoCozy Premium Bamboo/Organic Cotton Prefolds are a cost-effective cloth diaper. They require more knowledge and folding expertise than most other best cloth diaper styles. However, once you master how prefolds work, they are versatile. You can use them as standalone diapers, additional absorbent layers, or as a burp cloth for spit-up. Plus, we like the natural fiber makeup of these square diapers. OsoCozy Prefolds are ideal for any diapering family on a budget, whether highly experienced or brand new. All that matters is that you have a little extra time and the enthusiasm to learn and master the perfect folding technique.

Bottom Line The O.G. cloth diaper that's durable and cost-effective for those willing to put in the workA slightly bulky but super absorbent pocket diaperIdeal for use in on-the-go cloth diapering, with a simple set up and cleaning routine, but the liner is free floating and single gussetA pocket-style diaper with notable absorbency but otherwise basic and difficult to adjustAn inexpensive set of pocket diapers to kick off cloth diapering, but it isn't the most absorbent

OsoCozy Premium Bamboo/Organic Cotton Prefolds are about as basic in design as they come; just a square piece of cloth that's sewn with multiple layers in the center where the most absorbency is needed. Prefold styles require some additional accessories, such as a cloth fastener and a cover. We used the Thirsties Duo Wrap in our tests.

The OsoCozy prefolds are available in Traditional or Better Fit sizes. Traditional prefolds are available in Small Size 1, fitting babies from 7-15 lbs, or Large Size 2, fitting 15-30 lbs, and to be clear, we used the Traditional Fit during testing. The fabric is composed of a blend of bamboo and organic cotton and has a soft texture that is a bit silkier than your average cotton cloth.

We like the simplicity and versatility that this diapering option offers. There is no one way to use these, the adjustments are infinite, and it should be easy to find the perfect fit for any baby within the weight range. We also like that there are as many ways to fold these as babies on the planet. Giving you the freedom to arrange the cloth to get the most absorbency where you need it.

Probably one of the main selling points of these prefolds is the price. Even after totaling up the cost of covers, liners, and fasteners, you will probably find that it's still one of the cheapest options or it's comparable to some competition. Plus, the value increases when you consider that they can fill many purposes beyond diapering. The super-soft fabric is perfect for just about anything, from burp cloth to baby bib, or even as a cleaning rag.

Dislikes

While there are many advantages to using a prefold diaper, it is also more work in general. They are not the best option for anyone looking for something easy or even remotely resembling a disposable. You'll need to take the time to learn and master various folding techniques, which can feel daunting when facing so many other new tasks for the first time. Also, because they have natural fiber makeup, more prep is needed before the first use, and you should expect a significant amount of shrinkage. After a few months of use, some users report that they tend to hold stains that are hard to remove.

Absorbency

These prefolds were near the bottom of the pack in terms of absorbency.

The bamboo/cotton blend quickly absorbs moisture but struggles to contain it, and once the material is saturated, moisture leaks to the other side. This means your baby may feel wet and soggy, especially if they're heavy-soakers. We recommend using this prefold in conjunction with a reusable synthetic liner.

Should You Buy the OsoCozy Prefolds?

We love the idea of using eco-friendly natural fibers and having a versatile system to multitask beyond the diaper years. If learning new folding tricks doesn't seem like a chore, and you are trying to stay within a budget, prefolds may be the perfect option.

What Other Cloth Diaper Should You Consider?

A prefold can make cloth diapering more messy or involved than some parents want to cope with, leading to a lack of use and a switch to disposables. If you want an easy-to-use option that keeps cloth viable for busy newcomers, the bumGenius Freetime is a great option. While it doesn't have the best absorbency in the group, the ease of use and 35-pound weight limit could make it a great fit for some families. The Flip with Stay Dry Insert is an easy-to-use option with above-average results in every metric, making it a good all-around choice we think parents and babies will love.
