Our Verdict

The Kiinde Kozii Voyager Travel Warmer is a favorite bottle warmer for families on the go. It is a simple design package with multiple components that allow you to bring hot water with you for water bath warming later. It is inexpensive, easy to use, and easy to clean. However, it is limited in the number of times it can warm, the time between preparation, and when it will be used, and there are multiple components to keep track of. In our tests, it did heat consistently, but this assumes consistent preheating of water, and it requires a location that will allow you to prep and wait (so unlikely to be in your car). While it did an adequate job, we think you can DIY this process with things you already own, and we tested better portable options that offer more if travel or being away from home is a frequent occurrence.

Our Analysis and Test Results

Two MIT engineers started the Kiindee company with the hope of improving bottle warmers and feeding babies. They create a system of components designed to meet each stage of nutrition from pump to pouch and pouch to storage to bottle and beyond.

Performance Comparison

Health and Safety

Because this unit doesn't have a heating element of any kind, it would be challenging to get the content of the bottle over 104 degrees when nutrition starts to degrade. However, depending on the starting temperature of the water you add to the insulated tumbler, your potential for burns still exists when making the initial transfer or when using the water later for warming. We recommend you take care when you set up your warming system for the day ahead.

For our tests of using it at the hottest setting, we boiled water, placed it in the insulated container, and then almost instantly poured it into the bottle-holding chamber. Because the water was recently boiling, the warming happened quickly, and the temperature of the bottle contents went up quickly past the 104F degree mark. At 4 minutes, it was over body temperature, and at 5-6 minutes, it was over 104F. However, it is important to note that it is highly unlikely you'd ever use this warmer in this manner. Because it is a travel warmer, you will likely fill the container in the morning and utilize it somewhere between 2-4 hours later when the internal water temperature will have dropped somewhat.

Warming Efficiency and Consistency

Because the Voyager differs from other warmers and doesn't heat water on its own, we tested it by filling the insulated container with boiling water and waiting 4 hours before using the water to warm bottle contents.

If you use it before or after 4 hours, your experience will vary. The Voyager earned a slightly above average for the consistency of getting bottle contents to the same temperature. At 10 minutes, the range was 93-103 degrees. The range is smaller than some competitors and is suitable for bottle warming.

The Voyager has multiple parts that largely consist of a container for keeping water warm, a container to hold the bottle and hot water, and a lid.

Quickness of Warming

This is really a basic water bath with preheated water, and as a result, it doesn't heat very quickly. However, it is not the slowest in the group, and this will largely depend on how hot the water is when you put it in the container and the time lapse between heating and using the water. If you heat the water at 4 am and use it at 3 pm, it will not get bottle contents as warm as quickly as if you use it at noon. In our tests, at 10 minutes, it averages body temperature across tests. It never got hot enough to be worrisome or could possibly degrade milk nutrition.

To prepare the Voyager you fill the main container with hot water and put the parts together for travel and use later on.

Ease of Use

The product itself is pretty straightforward and is just an insulated container you fill with boiling water. Filling could lead to spilling, and we don't think you should be holding a baby when taking care of this warmer.

The Voyager has a thermos-type insulated container that requires two hands to open safely.

When you are ready to use it, you'll need both hands to unscrew the top, and once again, you are pouring hot water from one container to another. It is simple, with no settings to worry about, but you need to be careful with little ones nearby.

The Voyager Travel Warmer is easy to clean but does require a bottle brush to reach the bottom of the container.

Ease of Cleaning

This unit is easy to clean with a bottle brush. The plastic components are dishwasher safe, but we'd just wash them all by hand in soapy water using a bottle brush. It does not require descaling or special sterilization.

Some of the Voyager parts can be cleaned in the top rack of the dishwasher.

Should You Buy the Kiinde Kozii Voyager Travel Warmer?

The Voyager is really just an insulated container with extra components to hold your bottle and keep everything together. It feels like it could be useful for some, but if you're traveling, it needs to be used within about 4 hours, and you can likely only use it once. We also suspect most of you already have components at home that can be used to create a similar setup. Overall, we think there is a better portable option, and this one can be replicated DIY at home if you think you'd like this kind of setup.

What Other Bottle Warmer Should You Consider?

The Momcozy Portable Warmer is a unique and interesting portable warmer that we think could be the better travel choice for most. This warmer is battery-operated, can be used up to 4 times before needing a recharge, and is relatively consistent and easy to use. If you think you'll regularly need to warm bottles away from home, this would be our choice. It is smaller than the Voyager, too!
