Attitude Review
Our Verdict
Our Analysis and Test Results
Attitude diapers are made by Attitude that has a slogan of “Live Consciously.” They believe that once you open your eyes to the wonder of the world around you that you will feel better and want better for yourself, your family, and the world. Once they discovered the wonder of the world, they looked for natural ingredients that could do the same job as the synthetic options without the adverse side effects. The company claims that all of their products are “worry-free - 100% safe for your family and the planet, and free of cancer-causing chemicals, mutagens, and endocrine disruptors.” All Attitude products are made in Canada, tested by independent labs, and the company plants trees to achieve a CO2 neutral status.
Performance Comparison
Likes
The best part about this diaper is its ability to absorb liquids quickly and to lock them away to keep baby drier. Attitude offers impressive absorption performance; very few earned a higher score.
Attitude had only a little transfer of moisture to the test paper, and the test results were consistent from one test to another, indicating quality attention to the manufacturing process that creates the same performing diaper each time. This level of consistency is something some of the more well-known brands couldn't achieve. Less wetness means less chance of skin irritation, diaper rash, and wet clothing, which is a vital component of a great diaper.
This diaper also scored above average for ecology, though given the mission statement of the company, we are somewhat surprised it didn't score higher. Attitude earned a score only rivaled by a few of the other diapers we tested. This diaper is biodegradable under the right conditions, is made using renewable resources and recycled materials when possible, is chlorine-free, and uses biopolymer plastics. The company itself is carbon neutral and uses 100% renewable energy. They could have earned a higher score with more transparency and a less vague ingredient list. For example, we couldn't tell if they are totally chlorine-free or only elemental free.
Attitude also earned a score for health that was above average. Less than a third of the other products earned higher scores for health in this review. Its partial disclosure list, which is again somewhat vague, is free of chlorine and fragrances. Still, neither the packaging or the website discuss dyes, lotions, or latex specifically. However, some people may assume based on other things they specify (for testing, we did not assume and went strictly by what we could directly observe or find during research).
Dislikes
Attitude scored poorly in our tests and research for leakage, unfortunately. It received one of the lowest leak scores for the group, where several other green diapers earn the high. Attitude had more runoff and mock urine in the test tray than other diapers we tested, which indicates a higher potential for leaks in real life. Also, more online reviewers reported leaks when using this diaper than were reported by users of some other brands.
Attitude didn't score well for comfort, either. Often a diaper is comfortable but not durable or the opposite, but this one isn't comfortable and is only average for durability. It has rougher feeling back cover and inner liner, disappointing elastic and rougher cuffs, and moving parts with poky tabs.
We also didn't like the price of this diaper. At $0.53 per diaper for Attitude, only a handful of the products we tested cost more. Even if you aren't watching your budget, it is still a steep price to pay, considering there are higher scoring products in this review that cost less and give you more.
Conclusion
Attitude diapers are an above-average diaper with impressive absorption performance and higher than average scores for eco-friendliness and health. We like the effort this company has put into creating a product that tries to be environmentally friendly and good for the baby. Unfortunately, it just isn't great at leak prevention, which is half of what you need a diaper to do. If you can't rely on a diaper to keep messes inside, then it isn't doing its job. Combined with a much higher than average price, these faults make the Attitude diaper a non-winner in our book.
