Bottom Line | A nice quality mattress with healthier materials, but the weight and price could be prohibitive for some | A unique mattress that can be washed in the shower and fits in most cribs | Better quality option with innerspring and organic components, but the heft and price tag could make it a no-go depending on your goals | A polyester core mattress that is firm and lightweight with no polyurethane foam and a lower price | Polyurethane foam and a soft feel with rounded edges create a mattress we don't love |

Our Analysis and Test Results
My Green Mattress is owned by the Masters family. Tim Masters, father and husband, was inspired to create an organic mattress after his daughter suffered from allergies and eczema. What resulted was a commitment to healthier sleep surfaces and organic mattresses that continues today. The Masters have five children and make mattresses in various sizes from GOTS and GOLS-certified materials.
Materials
The Emily Natural offers a transparent list of material sn and scores well in our material metric for that reason.
The Emily uses recycled steel inner coils to create an innerspring on which to build. They then use layers of coconut coir bound together with organic latex to create a firm base, with wool and cotton over the top. The quilted cover and contrasting seam edges are highly detailed. Everything feels firm, and the edges do not crush under normal pressure.
Sheet Changing
Sheet changing could be a daily occurrence as your baby grows bigger. It isn't uncommon to be changing sheets every night in the middle of the night after your baby over fills their overnight diaper.
Weight is a major contributor to how difficult it is to change sheets. Heavier mattresses can make lifting the mattress challenging, especially for petite parents, and the mattress platform gets deeper in the crib, something that typically occurs as your baby becomes more mobile.
Emily did not perform as well on sheet changes as the lighter-weight synthetic material-based mattresses. Weighing 19.4 lbs in our tests, the Emily Natural is on the heavy side compared to the competition, where the lightest is closer to 7 lbs. However, out of the all-natural mattresses, it is one of the lightest, with a couple weighing over 20 lbs. However, while it is a sturdier product, it isn't as wide as some competitors, making it is to pull up and out of a crib to wrap a fitted sheet in place. The difficulty will largely depend on your ability to reach into a low-place platform and lift the mattress up.
Crib Fit
Emily Natural earned a higher score for the crib fit than some competitors.
With an average measurement size, it fit in all of our test cribs with ease. It had enough of a gap to make lifting it easier but not too large of a gap to be dangerous or ill-fitting.
It fits well in the smallest and larger cribs, indicating that finding a good marriage between your crib of choice and this mattress is higher than it might be with other pairings.
Should You Buy the My Green Mattress?
The Emily is our favorite mattress and one we'd recommend to most families. It uses organic cotton and wool with an innerspring core that offers support and structure. It doesn't off-gas and has a sturdy build that feels like good quality. It is a heavier mattress, which could make sheet changes more challenging for some. It is also somewhat expensive, though not the most expensive in the group, and it could be a no-go for families with smaller budgets. However, if you are looking for a mattress focused on high-quality materials and organic components, then it is hard to find a lower-priced option than the Emily.
What Other Crib Mattresses Should You Consider?
If you want to skip innerspring, the Avocado Organic is a worthy contender with a coconut coir and latex design with organic wool and cotton. It is heavier and more expensive, but it offers a dual-side unlike the Emily. If price is a concern, the Babyletto Pure Core with Dry Waterproof Cover is our favorite budget option, and it is also lightweight! This mattress is made of polyester batting and avoids the use of polyurethane foam, making it a standout for a lower-priced, non-toxic choice. Both options fit well in our test cribs, but the Avocado is harder to lift given its heft.
