Our Verdict

Holding the Editors' Choice award, the NutriBullet Blender (model ZNBF30400Z) is a top-performing machine that produces smooth purees and offers the capacity to create large batches of baby food if you prefer to prep and store food in your freezer. It has a user-friendly interface with multiple blending speeds, and it is reasonably easy to clean. Given the NutriBullet's size, you will need to sacrifice some space in your kitchen to house this unit, and it does not come with any extras (storage containers or to-go cups) like other contenders. But, we appreciate the blender's simplicity in design and performance. If you agree that the NutriBullet Blender meets your needs, we highly recommend it. Check out how it compares to the competition in our article on the best baby food makers.

Bottom Line An excellent blender that may take up kitchen space but is worth the expense given its multiple positives, including puree quality, ease of use, and capacity to create large batchesAlthough this blender option can't accommodate hot ingredients, it does perform well and has lots of extra features that make it a top contenderA Boroclass pitcher blender that is worth consideration given its acceptable puree quality, eco-health properties, and ease of cleaningSimple, inexpensive, and versatile, this unit makes baby food in a snapA muscle-powered food maker that mashes food and is portable, but does not produce puree quality like machines

Puree Quality

The NutriBullet outshines most of the competition with one of the highest scores in this metric. To assess performance, we tested various foods from soft to raw to examine puree quality and how consistently a product renders ideal puree results. Since a baby's first foods need to be smooth, it is essential to know if a product can achieve this.

There is no doubt that the NutriBullet Blender creates supreme purees. Of all the foods we tested, kale was the most challenging for this machine as it left behind tiny pieces, which is not ideal when striving for a smooth puree. However, most contenders struggled to blend kale, and the NutriBullet produced a better puree than most.

It excels at pureeing peas, blueberries, rice, and pasta, a few foods that most other contenders in our review could not match.

We appreciate that the NutriBullet Blender accommodates warm ingredients, unlike some of the competition, because it can be time-consuming to wait for food items to cool down to room temperature. Plus, it has the power and capacity to create large batches of baby food to freeze and store.

Ease of Use

The NutriBullet has one of the highest scores in this metric. We assess how intuitive a product is to use without the manual and the amount of prep time required before creating baby food for ease of use.

Out of the box, the NutriBullet is quick to assemble. The motor base has suction cup feet, which keep it stationary when blending. The labels on the control panel are easy to follow, thanks to simple buttons: On/Off, Low, Medium, High, and Pulse. Besides the pitcher (64 oz. capacity) and lid, it includes a tamper to help push ingredients closer to the blade. The pitcher has a wide mouth and an easy-pour spout, and the lid has a vented cap to release heat. Additionally, the top fits snugly into the pitcher, keeping liquid from spitting out while blending.

The perks don't stop there. The NutriBullet's control panel is minimal and easy to use without the manual. It has a power button and multiple settings.

The manufacturer suggests blending up to one minute. Beyond this timeframe, friction from the blades can cause ingredients to heat and generate internal pressure inside the vessel. Also, the NutriBullet requires some liquid when blending, which helps create its signature cyclonic action. Therefore, grinding dry ingredients, such as grains, should be avoided.

Health and Safety

For health and safety, we consider concerns over plastic and parts that are troublesome to see and clean, resulting in mold, bacteria, or rust. We also assessed moving blades and the potential for burns.

The NutriBullet's pitcher is BPA-free, and we did not experience any non-food taste after first or succeeding use. Also, since it offers no cooking feature, we have no concerns over burns from steam escaping, and it does not have a steam tank for yuck to grow or hide. It does have sharp blades that you will need to mindful of when blending and cleaning. Overall, this unit should remain a healthy option.

Ease of Cleaning

This metric considers the amount of time and parts to clean appropriately. Again, the NutriBullet's score was on the higher end.

For stubborn mess, fill the NutriBullet with some water, a dot of soap, and run on low for a few seconds as this will loosen debris and make the cleaning process more manageable.

Besides the motor base and tamper, the unit has dishwasher-safe parts. However, we think it is better to hand wash all of the components, plus it can extend the product's longevity and durability. For ongoing maintenance, the manual suggests inspecting all parts for damage or wear that may impair function or present a hazard.
