The "New Yorker" by Charlie G Review
Our Verdict
Our Analysis and Test Results
Charlie G. Bags was started by Kristi Geronimo, a working mother, who in 2015 was “shocked” by the lack of available breast pump bags. Kristin wanted a quality option capable of holding everything in one place for pumping, work, and personal needs. She spent over a year creating “The New Yorker.”
Performance Comparison
Ease of Use
The New Yorker is easy to use with a place for everything and everything in its place. We didn't have any trouble with zippers or other closures and the pockets and insulated compartments work as well as expected.
We do think the shoulder body cross strap could be wider or padded as a full bag can cause shoulder strain.
Quality
The Charlie G is durable nylon but lacks some structure which results in the bag “collapsing” when empty. The insulated pockets can sweat when overtime and the moisture bleed through the outside potentially getting other items wet. Some users experience zipper problems, but our zipper was fine. We do understand from others that the customer service is good and replacements and repairs have been offered for faulty products.
Weight/Bulk
The Charlie G is a large bag and rather heavy compared to the competition. The bag is 2.8 lbs which is twice the weight of the average bag and it is 2-inches longer and 1-inch wider than most of the competition. However, this larger size allows it to handle up to a 15-inch laptop with a case. The bag can fit everything you need for a full day, but it will be large and bulky.
Features
This bag has internal and external pockets that hold a variety of supplies from smartphones to a laptop. There are dual side pockets for a pump and accessories that are insulated to keep milk cool. This bag has a zippered outside pocket for personal items and a side pocket for a tablet and laptop. The bag comes with a dust cover and metal feet to keep it clean and looking fresh for years to come.
Style
This bag is a classy bag that looks high-end and professional for working mother's in professional environments that demand more than a basic backpack. The bag is black nylon and has shiny gold hardware accents and label giving the illusion of a more expensive option. The bag has a wide shoulder/crossbody strap and two handles for toting or shoulder hold.
